What I mean by this is that I hope to eliminate the use for an internal hard drive since I'm having some issues with it that I'd rather just leave behind

    Are you willing to take it out of the enclosure and put it inside the computer? It either won't be possible, or you'll likely suffer performance issues if you keep it as an external disk (e.g: connected via USB)
