While changing Windows from HDD to SSD, I accidentally deleted the 500MB disk that contains some HDD Windows files. Now after installation of Windows onto a SSD. I tried to open some Word files, that I got of the old Windows HDD it says 'access denied' error (Note: all permission given to new user). Also booting Windows from HDD is not working. I tried to restore it from bootable Windows pendrive but this is also not working.

I can share screenshot if needed.

  • First, are you actually running Windows 7? If so, we strongly recommend against that. Windows 7 is fully retired and should only be used in lab and isolated environments when absolutely necessary. Second, can you give us any more information regarding the "500MB disk" you deleted? Did it contain some of YOUR user files, or was it a system disk of some sort? What tool and method did you use to move Windows from the old drive to the new? Commented Jun 17 at 14:36
  • Hard to say, but it might be you need to run as Administrator to access the Word files. Also, dump Win 7. If the machine is not capable of running Win 10 or 11, try Linux. Windows 3.1, 95, ME, 7 usw. are not supported, just disasters ready to unfold. Commented Jun 17 at 16:45
  • Did you delete a 500MB PARTITION, or format an entire drive, or just delete 500MB of files? Did this happen DURING the migration from the old HDD to the new SSD, or prior to, or after? When you "changed" Windows from the old drive to the new, did you just copy/image the existing OS over, or did you do a fresh install of Windows on the new drive? Commented 2 days ago
